Digital Studio
The Digital Studio is a collection of spaces in Schaffer Library that support innovative teaching, learning, and media production. It includes the Engaging Technology Lab, ConnectIT Lab, Production Studio, and Podcast Booth. Faculty, staff, and students may use these spaces for academic projects, digital media creation, and experimentation with emerging technologies. To reserve any of the rooms in the suite, please submit a ticket to LDDI or call (518) 388-6400.
Engaging Technology Lab (Room 205)
The Engaging Technology Lab is a collaborative space where faculty, staff, and students can explore new approaches to teaching, learning, and technology integration. It serves as a hub for course technology support, digital skill development, and experimentation with emerging tools. The lab is staffed by our Learning Experience Designer and Learning Design & Digital Innovation (LDDI) Student Liaisons, who together provide one-on-one support, workshops, and training. The ETL connects users to available resources (including the Production Studio, ConnectIT Lab, and Podcast Booth), making it a central entry point for academic innovation.
Podcast Booth (Room 205a)
The 4’x6’ Podcast Booth is a sound-treated space designed for high-quality audio recording for one person at a time. This can include interviews and sessions where students need a quiet space. It features the Focusrite Scarlett Solo Studio 4th Gen Recording Bundle:
- Scarlett Solo Audio Interface
- Headphones and Microphone
- PC for recording/ editing
ConnectIT Lab (Room 206)
The "ConnectIT Lab" is flexible environment for faculty and students to connect with remote locations in real time to research, practice, and experiment with multi-modal, collaborative, and adaptive learning techniques. The “ConnectIT Lab” offers technology that provides an immersive learning/meeting environment for participants, connecting two remote locations for synchronous instruction and real time collaboration to enhance learning and other important college initiatives and events. Equipped with two HD wide-angle cameras, drop-ceiling microphones, four ceiling speakers, and a 70” LCD display connected to a Mac mini, the lab provides an immersive environment for synchronous instruction and collaborative meetings. Seating capacity is 16.
Production Studio (Room 209)
The Production Studio supports professional-quality audio and video production for up to four people. It includes 4K cameras, a RODECaster Pro II console for audio capture and mixing, lighting, green screen, black backdrop, and a Learning Glass Lightboard for annotation-based recordings (Using the Learning Glass Lightboard). The studio operates on two usage tiers: Audio project and full production. The basic tier allows campus members to use the space for podcasting and other audio-only projects after completing [Digital Studio training]. Tier two, Full Production, is meant to focus on video recording, livestreaming, and hybrid sessions with in-person or remote guests. This Pro tier requires the presence of an LDDI staff member or LDDI Student Liaison.
