Instructional Facility Equipment Updates for Fall Term 2021

ITS installed additional equipment in electronic classrooms and other learning spaces where faculty have indicated blended, synchronous instruction (i.e., teaching occurring in real-time, to both remote and face-to-face students).  ITS invites you to carefully inspect the locations this equipment is being installed below. If you are teaching in one of these locations, sign-up for one-on-one, in-person training with a member of our Learning Environments staff. Note: Sonia Sandoval is handling Vibe Electronic Whiteboard training. Please submit a HelpDesk ticket and request that the ticket be sent to Sonia.

Revolabs Dual Wireless Microphone System (Lapel + Boundary)

Yamaha Lapel and Boundary Mic System

Description: The lapel kit is a USB solution and will not tie into the Crestron system at the podium. It is used for Zoom audio-only. The kit comes with a lapel mic and a boundary, omnidirectional mic. The boundary mic can be placed in the student area to pick up audio (radius ~10-15 ft).  Read more about how to use the Revolabs Dual Wireless Microphone System

Where: ITS installed this kit in all of the electronic classrooms as of November 2021.

Cleaning:  ITS recommends spraying the disinfectant solution onto a paper towel and then wiping down the equipment with the paper towel.  Remove excess moisture from the equipment and allow it to dry fully. Do not spray cleaning solution directly on the equipment. Sanitize hands before and after handling the equipment.

Huddle Cam + Tripod

Description: These cameras provide over 60 focus presets (e.g., close-up, medium, wide-angle shots). The cameras do not tie into the Crestron system at the podium. Faculty can use a remote control to change camera presets or manually control focus and zoom. There are no microphones in this camera, just video. Read more about how to use the Huddlecam.

Where: ITS installed these cameras in the following locations: Nott; Olin 115; Reamer Auditorium; VART204; WLDC128.

Wolfvision Document Camera (Visualizer)

Hybrid and online learning: Now and for the future
All current WolfVision Visualizers/document cameras support the UVC standard, which gives you simple plug-and-play connectivity when using them together with Windows computers in the lecterns in the classrooms.

With Zoom web conferencing app, you can simply use your Visualizer/document camera as a source, adding in live on-screen content whenever you want.

Displaying a variety of 'live' on-screen content is one of the great benefits of in-classroom teaching – it’s also easy to do during your online sessions, thanks to the built-in functionality of your WolfVision Visualizer.

This guide shows how to use the document camera [doc cam] in an Electronic Classroom through Zoom web conferencing in the event a document camera does not present itself as a camera input in Zoom. Each Electronic Classroom is equipped with a document camera to help facilitate teaching and learning through either in-person or virtual instruction.

Please note: for either resolution below, the document camera requires a USB cable connection to the lectern computer.

Launch Zoom app [Windows ONLY]

  1. Power document camera on
  2. In Zoom, select Share Screen
  3. Select the Advanced tab and then select Content from 2nd Camera
  4. Click Share button
  5. The connected document camera should now show through the screen sharing option in Zoom
  6. You may toggle camera-input [between document camera and video camera] by clicking the Switch Camera button at the top left corner of the shared window

Vibe Electronic Whiteboard

Vibe electronic whiteboard

Description: Vibe is a collaboration solution that combines an interactive digital whiteboard and smart software. Faculty can invite students to join a Zoom session right on the board and use the microphone in the webcam to hold a live synchronous session. Students in a classroom, as well as remote, can join the electronic whiteboard through a URL or join code, bringing the board up on their device (laptop, mobile device). In this scenario, students sitting in the back of a large space or elsewhere in the world can see the whiteboard annotations in real time. In addition, faculty can give students edit access to the board and invite them up to demonstrate a concept or write out an equation, if desired. Make sure you do not walk off with the stylus. It magnetically connects to the board and should be left there for the next faculty member using the room.

Where: ITS installed these Vibe boards in the following locations: Olin 115; Reamer Auditorium.

Cleaning: Please do not use cleaning solutions that contain alcohol or ammonia on the boards. ITS requests if you need to clean the board, please contact Learning Environments staff and we will clean it for you. If you have no other choice, Vibe recommends cleaning it with a slightly damp cloth. Do not spray cleaning solution directly on the equipment. Standard cleaning products should be fine to use on the Vibe passive styluses (please be sure to let them dry completely before using them on the screen). Sanitize hands before and after handling the equipment.

Additional On Demand Training + Support: Learn more about using Vibe board within a Zoom session in a Union College electronic classroom. There is also additional support available through Vibe's Help Center, Educator/Teacher FAQ, and quick Video Tutorials. ITS strongly recommends signing up for in-person training with Sonia Sandoval before your first day of class.
