By combining student upload folders and differentiated assignments,
instructors can use Perusall for peer review.

NOTE: These directions work IF you've already provisioned a Perusall course from Nexus.
If you haven't, then we recommend first creating the Nexus assignment and then click on the assignment to provision the Perusall course.

To use the Peer Review option in Perusall, create a student upload folder and then create a differentiated assignment using the materials students upload. A gradebook column will be generated for you.

In Perusall:

  • Change your Group Settings in Perusall to place all students into one group by going to Settings >  Grouping > Change Target Group Size to match your class size > Save Changes.
  • Create a student upload folder by clicking Course Home > Library > Add Content > Student Upload Folder.
  • Students will be able to upload the following formats:
    • PDF
    • EPUB
    • image
    • Word document
    • Powerpoint deck
    • source code file
  • Create a differentiated Assignment by clicking Course Home > Assignments .
  • In the drop-down menu, select Add Differentiated Assignment.
  • Click the field titled Select Folder and choose your student upload folder from the drop-down menu.
  • Specify which students should receive each document
  • Set your assignment parameters.

See more detailed instructions HERE.

Click on the "Copy Full Title for LMS" button to copy the exact title of the assignment. You'll need the exact name in Nexus.

In Nexus:

Once the peer review assignment is set up in Perusall:

  • Go to your course in Nexus and add an "External Tool > Perusall" assignment
  • Name your assignment EXACTLY the same as the assignment in Perusall.
    • You can use the button "Copy Full Title for LMS" button under the Perusall assignment to make sure you are copying the exact name.

This article is intended for users that have a course already built out with the LTI 1.1 integration (any course before Fall 2023) that used Perusall. You need to switch to Perusall LTI 1.3. You only need to do this one time per course that still has the 1.1 integration.
Perusall is a social annotation tool that integrates with Nexus via assignments. Perusall allows students and their instructors to collaboratively markup documents, articles, websites, etc. online. Instead of reading a document and discussing it, Perusall brings the discussion to the text
