What is Turnitin Draft Coach?

The Turnitin Draft Coach is an add on for Google Docs that highlights grammar mistakes and provides explanations to help students edit and deepen their understanding. For students, Draft Coach encourages learning by providing formative guidance on how to address errors and improve writing before final submission. Faculty can see fewer grammar, citation, and academic integrity issues since students address them earlier in the writing process with Draft Coach.

“Students learn twice as fast when they receive constructive feedback (specific comments on errors, suggestions to the students about how to improve, and at least one positive remark) than their peers who simply receive a score on their math homework.”   ------- Dylan Wiliam, Embedded Formative Assessment

Advantages to students using Turnitin Draft Coach:

  • Gives feedback earlier in the writing process can help students learn about idea attribution, citations and grammar
  • Provides formative guidance during the writing process leading to the summative assessments
