What's New?

New ITS Employees

ITS is excited to welcome six new employees! Read more about our new hires!

Logins for Public Labs

Public lab computers (student computers only) will now require login with the following credentials:
Username: libuser
Password: Union1795

Workstations that are idle for 30 minutes will get automatically logged out.

Electronic Classroom podium username and password have not changed.  Also, the passcode for the touch panel has not changed.

Software in Public Labs

Union College offers a plethora of software available in the public labs.  Details about software provided can be found here.

Upgraded Classrooms

All electronic classrooms lectern PC and Macintosh computer were replaced over the summer.  All classroom and public lab locations have been updated to the latest versions of Windows and macOS.  Wold 225, Lippman 201, and Minerva Green House received full technology upgrades over the summer as well.  These electronic classrooms each were outfitted with brand new NEC 6500 lumens 1080p projectors, 4k quality connections for laptops, Crestron AV controls from touch panels and ceiling-mounted speakers.

New WebApps Login Requirements

Due to recent updates login credentials on the WebApps platform now require the use of a full email address as the username. 

Imagine lab

Come check out Union's new "Imagine Lab" in Wold 118! Thanks to a generous gift of VR equipment from Global Foundries, this space aims to help students develop a human-centered and culturally sensitive philosophy,  sensibility, and ethic around emerging technologies to better navigate implications and impact!  This active learning space will facilitate collaboration, immersive visualizations, and digital interactive experiences to enrich learning, advance research, and renew pedagogy.

Nexus Upgraded

Nexus was upgraded to version 3.6 over the summer.  Learn about the exciting new features, like the Sharing Cart, Tiles format, recording assignment feedback and quiz improvements in this knowledge base article.

Temporary LTE Location

Learning Technology and Environments staff offices have been moved to swing spaces in Science and Engineering North West–rooms 104,106, and 108 due to construction. They will resume their normal location by the end of the fall term.

Ensemble Anthem

ITS migrated the College’s video/lecture capture platform to Ensemble Anthem, a powerful Mac and Windows solution supporting your lecture capture, screen capture and flipped learning needs that easily integrates with your Ensemble Media Library. Learn more here!

Learning library

The Our Shared Humanities initiative has made it possible for the Schaffer Library to acquire more than 500 new interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary texts and resources, including a corpus of works focused on promoting Teaching Excellence through a student and human centered lens. Books can be checked out through the circulation desk!

G Suite v. Microsoft 365: What does ITS Recommend?

Union College is a G Suite school, but faculty, students, and staff do have access to some Microsoft 365 programs. This knowledge base article will help you understand what ITS recommends and supports.

Learning Technology Ideas

Did you know there are a bunch  of online Learning Technology Support knowledge base articles available, not only to provide self-directed help when you need it, but also provide ideas for potential uses? Research Computing

Support for faculty and student research is provided through cloud-based High Performance Computing (HPC) resources. Interested and want to learn more? Check out this knowledge base article!

Office 365 for Home Use 

Faculty, Staff, and Students are eligible for Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) home use.  Please go to www.office.com and click on Sign In using your Union College email address, select Work or School Account and follow the prompts.  Once logged in, click on install office in the upper right corner.  Office 365 will be available to you for free as long as you are at Union College. 

Telecommunications Reminders

The Telecommunications Office is located in Steinmetz 100 and takes care of all voice services and equipment.  We can be reached at 518-388-6411 or telecom@union.eduDID YOU KNOW  that you can dial “0” from any college phone and be connected to the union automated telephone directory; listen to your voicemail messages from your email;  manage your voicemail box on line by logging into avstweb.union.edu; reserve audio conference bridges/services; and receive discounts from cellular carriers for personal devices.  Click here for more on telecommunications.

Upcoming Workshops

LTE workshop/Nexus Training

Faculty will learn more about available learning technologies and LTE support and services. A good portion of this workshop is devoted to covering Nexus basics, providing faculty "just in time" support for getting Nexus course websites ready for fall term startup!

In this training, learn about how to use Ensemble Anthem, a powerful Mac and Windows solution supporting instructional lecture capture, screen capture and flipped learning needs, with your Ensemble Media Library (a platform which streams audio/video content like YouTube–without the annoying ads!).
