Academics@union - Information and Guidelines

This is an unmoderated list to facilitate discussion and dialogue on topics related to academics at Union College. Faculty, administrators, faculty emeriti and staff (no students) may subscribe to the listserv to receive, send or reply to messages at any time.  Academics@union.edu is a discussion list and is not intended as a way to reach or ask questions of administrators or other college departments.  Please write to the specific person or office responsible for questions or concerns that require a response. Non-academic discussion topics should be directed to the social@union.edu list. 

Membership: Faculty are automatically added when hired and may unsubscribe (see below); Administrators and staff may join upon request by following the directions below.

Subscribing

  1. When you're in Google, click on the Google Apps icon Image: Google Apps icon in the upper right corner of your browser.
  2. Click on the Groups icon Image: Google Groups icon
  3. Click on All groups in the menu on the left and type in academics in the search box at the top of the screen.
  4. You will see the academics@union.edu listed.  To the right, click on the icon that looks like you are entering a door (see below).


    If you hover over the icon, it will say Ask to join group.  A dialog box will pop up that shows your display name and the check box for Link to my Google account profile will be checked.  Decide on how often you want email messages and provide a brief explanation for why you want to join.  Click the Ask to join link at the bottom once you've completed the filling in the form.

Changing your <academics@union.edu> settings to digest mode

To change your deliver preferences for academics@union.edu, you need to go to Google Groups. 

  1. When you're in Google, click on the Google Apps icon Image: Google Apps icon in the upper right corner of your browser.
  2. Click on the Groups icon Image: Google Groups icon.
  3. On the Google Groups home screen, click on the [My groups] icon  and you will see a list of groups that you are subscribed to. 
  4. Click on the button to the right of academics@union.edu that says [Each email] and then select your preference from the drop down list.

  • Each emal: Receive an email for every group post.
  • Digest: Up to 25 complete messages combined into single emails and sent daily.
  • Abridged: Summaries of up to 150 messages combined into single emails and sent daily.
  • No email: You won't get any email messages sent to that group.

Unsubscribing

  1. When you're in Google, click on the Google Apps icon Image: Google Apps icon in the upper right corner of your browser.
  2. Click on the Groups icon Image: Google Groups icon.
  3. On the Google Groups home screen, click on the [My groups] icon  and you will see a list of groups that you are subscribed to.
  4. Click on the button to the right of academics@union.edu that looks like you are leaving out the door (see below).  If you hover over the icon, it will say Leave group.
